Patient and community satisfaction

Surveying patients about their experience within the UC Davis Medical Center is a vital element in the commitment to “discovering and sharing knowledge to advance health.”

Rating the hospital experience

In surveys conducted by Professional Research Consultants, Inc., throughout 2008, 96 percent of UC Davis Medical Center patients rated the quality of care they received as “good,” “very good” or “excellent.” More than nine out of 10 patients said they likely would recommend UC Davis to a friend or relative in need of hospital care.

Rating the clinic experience

In the same 2008 Professional Research Consultants study, 97 percent of clinic outpatients rated the quality of care they received as “good,” “very good” or “excellent,” while 96 percent indicated that they would recommend UC Davis clinics to others.

Consumer Choice Award

UC Davis Medical Center earned its 11th consecutive “Consumer Choice Award” in 2009 for being the region’s top hospital in overall quality and image among area hospitals. The honor is based on the National Research Corporation’s annual nationwide survey.

Consumer opinion study

In a survey of more than 500 area households conducted by National Market Measures, Inc. during the summer of 2009, UC Davis Medical Center was named the area’s leader in medical research. In the same study, the UC Davis Health System was rated as making the most significant contribution to its community of all area health systems.

Higher-than-average patient recommendations

UC Davis Medical Center met or exceeded average scores reported for more than 2,500 other U.S. hospitals in the first nationwide survey of patients after they’ve been discharged. UC Davis exceeded local, state and national averages on two key measures – whether patients were given timely information about medication, and whether they received information about what to do during recovery at home. Nearly 75 percent of UC Davis patients also said they’d recommend the hospital to others, again exceeding state and national marks. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services conducted the volunteer survey.

Stronger grades than most other Calif. medical groups

UC Davis Medical Group physicians earned stronger grades from their patients than doctors at most other California medical groups, according to the 2009 Patient Assessment Survey conducted by the nonprofit California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative. UC Davis patients gave their primary care physicians overall scores high enough to place them among the state’s top 10 percent. UC Davis also ranked in the top 10 percent of California medical groups for several other measures on the annual survey, including the number of patients who would recommend their doctor to others.
