Division of Pain Medicine
At the UC Davis Medical Center's Division of Pain Medicine, we believe a multidisciplinary approach to achieve the most effective management of pain is critically important. Our core team of pain specialists consists of anesthesiologists, internists, psychiatrists, psychologists and physical therapists.
In an effort to ensure continuity of care, the Division of Pain Medicine emphasizes a consultative team approach, working closely with primary and referring physicians to explore all possible avenues to pain reduction and recovery.
Our approach in effective pain management is twofold:

Our approach in effective pain management is twofold:
- Application of direct intervention methods to increase function and decrease pain; and
- Helping patients regain control of their life functions that have been compromised by chronic pain (See Behavioral Medicine.)
After an initial assessment, we design a specially tailored treatment plan for each individual, with an emphasis on personalized, compassionate care.
Our specialists typically accept patients on a referral basis, although patients sometimes may initiate contact with us. We prepare written assessment and treatment plans for referring physicians to keep them informed of each patient's care and progress. We are committed to working closely with patients and their primary care physician at each stage of the evaluation, treatment and long term follow-up care process.
